Space Base Delta 41

Space Base Delta 41, Schriever SFB

Space Base Delta 41 is led by U.S. Space Force Colonel Eric D. Bogue and will be responsible for combat support, combat service support, weapon system infrastructure, and installation support to space operational missions at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado, as well as assigned geographically separated units at Ka’ena Point Space Force Station, Hawaii, and New Boston SFS, New Hampshire.

SBD 41 Patch Significance
Platinum represents the men and women of the Space Operations Command who faithfully perform the Space Force Mission. The Centurion symbolizes warrior strength, discipline, courage, and endurance in support of space superiority. The Orion constellation embodies the strength and courage of the warriors that are always on the hunt. The white Polaris signifies our constant presence and vigilance in space, as well as our relentless pursuit of excellence as a guiding principle. The red Griffin emblazoned on the shield represents the strength of a lion and the bold flight of the eagle and serves as the steward of Schriever Space Force Base protecting the assigned Airmen and Guardians.

Schriever Space Force Base is located approximately 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado. After announcing in early 1981 that a military space systems control facility would be built, Falcon Air Force Station became home to that facility, the Consolidated Space Operations Center. Beginning in 1987, operational functions began transferring to Falcon AFS units. This process took several years and was completed with the formal turnover of the CSOC in September 1993.

Groundbreaking took place May 17, 1983, and Falcon AFS became a reality. Two years later, the 2nd Space Wing was formed, and mission capability from Onizuka AFS began transferring over to Falcon following the base's activation on Sept. 26, 1985. The wing took operational control of the Air Force Satellite Control Network in October 1987. On June 13, 1988, Falcon AFS was re-designated Falcon AFB.

Due to Air Force-wide restructuring, the 2nd SW was inactivated, and the 50th Tactical Fighter Wing re-designated as the 50th SW activated at Falcon AFB on Jan. 30, 1992. The 50th TFW had inactivated on Sept. 30, 1991, at Hahn Air Base, Germany. Its re-designation and activation at Falcon AFB continued the heritage of a highly decorated unit.

On June 5, 1998, Falcon AFB was renamed Schriever SFB in honor of retired Gen. Bernard A. Schriever, who pioneered the development of the nation's ballistic missile programs and is recognized as "the father of the U.S. Air Force's space and missile program." Gen. Schriever passed away June 20, 2005.

Schriever SFB is home to 8,000 military and civilian employees. The base indirectly contributes an estimated $1.3 billion to the local Colorado Springs, Colorado, area annually. Read more about the history of Schriever SFB here.
