Colonel DAVID BERRÍOS

Colonel David Berríos is the Vice Commander, Space Base Delta 1, headquartered at Schriever Space Force Base, Colo. He is responsible for providing security, civil engineering, fire protection, environmental management, manpower, personnel, services, contracting, and housing support for Schriever SFB. He leads the Mission Support squadrons comprised of over 800 personnel who manage a $25 million annual budget, administer $500 million in contracts, and oversees 3,840 acres and 80 facilities valued at $1.2 billion. He provides full spectrum support to the installation’s 22 tenant agencies and mission partners, 16 geographically separated units, and almost 8,000 personnel operating communications, navigation and surveillance satellites and associated systems valued at $72 billion. Additionally, under his leadership, the Mission Support team plans, develops and coordinates base growth, mutual aid and encroachment issues with higher headquarters, city, county, state, and federal officials; and organizes, trains and equips Airmen and Guardians for worldwide deployments in support of combatant commander requirements.

Colonel Berríos has a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. He commissioned on January 2001 upon completion of the Officer Training School in Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. During his 19 years on active duty, he has served on various operational and staff assignments throughout the Air Force, including assignments at Andrews Air Force Base, Osan Air Base, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, the United States Air Force Academy, Lajes Field Air Base, Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickam, and Headquarter Air Force. Colonel Berrios has deployed four times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation New Dawn and Operation Inherent Resolve.

Prior to this assignment, Col Berrios was the Chief, Security Cooperation Office, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He led a dedicated team of military and civilian personnel responsible for the delivery of Security Cooperation and Security Assistance support to our Honduran Armed Forces partners in order to advance strategic goals and to respond to shared challenges.

Colonel Berríos and his wife Sonia, have a son, Nathaniel, and daughter, Alexa.
