Public Affairs

Public Affairs advances the Department of the Air Force priorities and achieves mission objectives through integrated planning, execution and assessment of communication capabilities, aligned with PA core competencies—Trusted Counsel to Leaders; Service Member Morale and Readiness; Public Trust and Support; Global Influence and Deterrence.

The Peterson & Schriever SFB Public Affairs Office provides advice and counsel, communication planning and support to Space Base Delta 1.

To request PA event coverage, please submit a request through our customer service portal at least 10 duty days prior to the event. Advanced notice provides PA the ability to ensure the necessary equipment and personnel are available and increases the likelihood that the event can receive PA support.

Command Information

Leaders rely on public affairs professionals to assist them with delivering their communication efforts to service members and their families, to include retirees, civilians and contract employees. Command Information provides effective and efficient communication tools and products to link members with their leaders. Command Information helps service members and their families understand their purpose, role, and value to the Colorado Springs community.

The Public Affairs Photo & Video Studio supports members assigned to Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, Cheyenne Mountain SFS and units with an active support agreement. To help keep us all in line with Department of the Air Force expectations and standards of conduct, here is some guidance for you to consider when using social media.

In general, the DAF views personal social media sites positively and respects your rights as Americans to use them to express yourself. However, by the nature of your profession, you are always on the record and must represent our core values. When you engage via social media, don't do anything that will discredit yourself or the DAF.

When using Social Media:

  • Think before you post. Use your best judgment because your writing can have serious consequences.
  • Remember that you are always on duty and your social media interactions are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
  • Don't forget your operations security (OPSEC) considerations. Consider how a post can be interpreted by the public.
  • Be cautious about crossing the line between funny and distasteful. If you have doubts about whether you should post something, err on the side of caution.
  • If the post in question concerns the Air Force, discuss the proposed post with your supervisor or your local PA office.

Here's the link to the DoD's social media guidance. Social Media Policy It should answer most of the questions you may have about creating and using social media.

The guide also has some good information applicable to all Guardians and Airmen who have their own personal social media presence. Ultimately, you alone are responsible for what you post.

Social media guidance for your unit:
To request permission to set up a social media site [ex: Facebook, Twitter, etc.], please email SBD1.PA@spaceforce.mil. Justification for requests should include, at a minimum, the requesting unit and name of page administrators, what the page will be used for and why your needs cannot be met by using the official Space Base Delta 1 social media channels. Additionally, a comprehensive communication and defacement plan, along with a memo signed by the commander will be required. Submission of the request does not guarantee approval.

Community Engagement

Community Engagement extends beyond issuing information. It involves fostering relations with the neighboring community in a direct community and military interface. Well-conducted community relations enhance readiness by fostering hometown support. A good-neighbor policy is established through involvement with the communities and extends support to families of deployed Guardians and Airmen. The Community Engagement section identifies and fosters opportunities with organizations across civic, business and governmental institutions to increase public trust and enhance support for military operations in the defense of our Nation.

If you are looking for a Guardian, Airman, or civilian employee to address your group at a community event, we can help. Space Base Delta 1 and our mission partners appreciate the enormous sacrifices made by our neighbors as we train for the defense of our country. Among those sacrifices is the occasional disruption of daily life by noise and flight operations. Sometimes this results in low-flying aircraft and noise in the Colorado Springs area.

Space Base Delta 1 strives to be a good neighbor by maintaining good community and media relations with our surrounding communities. We diligently seek to provide timely, responsive, and factual answers to all public inquiries as they pertain to our bases.

Submit a complaint.

The Pikes Peak Friends of Spaces Program, our adaptation of the U.S. Air Force's Honorary Commander Program, encourages an exchange of ideas and experiences, increases public awareness and understanding of the military as well as encourages friendships between key leaders of the base's surrounding communities, SBD 1 commanders and personnel.

To learn more about the SBD 1 Pikes Peak Friends of Space Program, email SBD1.PA@spaceforce.mil.

Media Operations

Media Operations ensures accurate and timely communication with local and national media about USSF's people, actions, and activities. While speed is vital for a successful media relationship, credibility through quick, accurate, and candid responses to inquiries is equally crucial.

The Media Operations section works to coordinate all interviews, queries and all other requests to Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, Pituffik Space Base, Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station, New Boston SFS, Ka’ena Point SFS, and the Maui Space Surveillance Complex on the summit of Haleakala, Hawaii.

Military members and civilian workers assigned to Space Base Delta 1 who are contacted by news media should provide the media member with the email address and phone number of the Public Affairs Media Operations section.

Space Base Delta 1 is a non-public news gathering forum and requires all civilian media to have entry authorization and a Public Affairs escort prior to entering the base. Unless otherwise arranged, all media will enter the installations via the visitor center.

Media interested in covering SBD 1 activities should call (719) 556-5185 or email SBD1.PA@spaceforce.mil to arrange for an escort and for detailed information regarding upcoming media opportunities.
