Wing scores “Effective" rating in UEI

Wing proves effectiveness during inspection capstone

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colorado -- After more than a week of inspections, May 19 marked the end of the 21st Space Wing's unit effectiveness inspection capstone.

The Air Force Space Command Inspector General team graded the 21st Space Wing and its geographically separated units with an overall "Effective." There are four major graded areas; executing the mission, managing resources, improving the unit and leading people, with 14 sub-major graded areas.

The 21st SW scored a "Highly Effective" in four of the sub- major graded areas, one "Marginally Effective," and the rest of the sub- major graded areas received an "Effective" rating.

Throughout the inspection, the IG team noted at least 52 professional performers and 26 professional teams. The team has not finished the list for professional performers and teams nor do the numbers include the performers and teams from the GSUs. The completed list will be released in the near future.

Some of the Airmen and teams recognized for excellence came from the 21st Security Forces Squadron, 21st Operations Support Squadron, 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron, 21st Contracting Squadron and many more.

"Chief Peele, the rest of the 21 Space Wing leadership team and I are very proud of the work and effort of our Airmen," said Col. John Shaw, 21st Space Wing commander. "Our next two-year UEI cycle has already begun and I am confident we will continue our drive toward excellence in the days ahead."

The purpose of the UEI is to bring in an independent team to assess the effectiveness of the wing and validate the commander's inspection program. The inspection does not focus on the shop-level compliance but focuses more on the undetected non-compliance risks. Even though the main focus is not on the shop-level, the wing commander can direct a sampling or more comprehensive inspection to help identify areas in need.
