NASA research at Thule
THULE AIR BASE, Greenland – Rick Yasky, a pilot with NASA’s Langley Research Center, explains features of the Beechcraft King Air aircraft Aug. 16, 2015 at Thule Air Base. The space agency recently finished three weeks of operations at Thule, developing software for a satellite due to launch in 2017. The researchers relied on the 821st Air Base Group to provide a hangar, lodging, meals and more while they conducted their research in the Arctic Circle. The 821st ABG, one of the six installations operated by the 21st Space Wing, maintains an airfield and 10,000-foot runway at the U.S. Armed Forces' northernmost installation.
