Secretary of War Pete Hegseth speaks via video call with Airmen and Guardians at Pituffik Space Base, Greenland, Dec. 19, 2025, delivering a holiday greeting and recognizing their service at the Department of War’s northernmost installation. Airmen from the 821st Space Base Group and 821st Security Forces Squadron, along with Guardians from the 12th Space Warning Squadron, discussed their missions supporting global missile warning, space surveillance, Arctic logistics and scientific research. Operating from Pituffik’s strategic “Top of the World” location, these units support missions that contribute to Arctic security and global defense for the United States and its allies. The 12th Space Warning Squadron operates a solid-state phased-array radar providing early warning of ballistic missile launches to national command authorities through the Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment network and North American Aerospace Defense Command. The 821st Security Forces Squadron safeguards personnel, weapon system infrastructure, and weapon systems, ensuring uninterrupted space operations in one of the most remote and austere environments in the Department of War.
