Peterson Air Force Base's intramural softball season is scheduled to come to its conclusion Sept. 2 at Peterson's Freedom Fields sports complex.
The finals of the Tuesday and Thursday night leagues take place at 5:30 p.m. with the teams that have survived the playoff series that has been underway for the past 10 days here.

The Tuesday night league playoffs began Aug. 26 with the fourth-seeded 76th Space Control Squadron/544th Inspector General team losing to the fifth-seeded 21st Civil Engineer Squadron team. Also in the first games of the tournament, the third-seeded Headquarters Air Force Space Command team defeated the sixth-seeded 21st Medical Group team.

The winners of those games moved on to meet the top two seeds in the tournament in the second round of games, and that round produced the first stunning action of the tournament. The top seeded 21st Force Support Squadron team was upset by the Civil Engineers, dropping the top-seeded team into the loser's bracket. In the second winner's bracket contest, the second seeded 302nd Maintenance team defeated HQ/AFSPC to advance to the winners bracket championship game and a date against the Engineers for a ticket to the championship game. (The results of the game, played Tuesday night were not available at press time).

The losers bracket round began with the 76th SPCS/544th IG team defeating the third seeded HQ/AFSPC team and knocking AFSPC out of the tournament. In the second losers bracket game, the biggest stunner of the tournament occurred as the 21st Medical Group knocked the number one seeded 21st FSS team out of the playoffs. The two teams met Tuesday night to determine who would meet the loser of the winner's bracket game and play for the right to play at the championship tonight.

The Thursday night league began Aug. 28 with its six seeded teams battling for the chance to meet for the championship. The six teams in this year's Thursday night league are: Team Colorado (top seed), 721st Security Forces Squadron (second seed), 21st Contracting Squadron (third seed), U.S. Northern Command/North American Aerospace Defense Command J8 (fourth seed), U.S. NORTHCOM (fifth seed) and the combined 21st Space Wing/Operations Group (sixth seed). The results from the games on Aug. 28 were not available at press time, but the schedule calls for the league to conclude its season tonight at the Freedom Fields sports complex.
