The articulate aroma of freshly-ground coffee beans beats a path through the smells of Peterson's Fitness and Sports Center these days.

Ashleyann Carlson is the owner and operator of Wild Blue Yonder, a new health and coffee bar now open in the base's fitness center. Ms. Carlson, an ice skating medalist and health food devotee, decided that, after the success of her first health bar at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Peterson was a great choice to open another.

"As a sports competitor and small business owner, I felt there was a need for healthy choice foods at the Peterson gym," she said. "We offer many selections of healthy snacks and fruit smoothies. We also have a large variety of supplements, which allows us to create smoothies specifically designed for any personal health program. And for those that get their kick from caffeine, we offer a wide selection of coffees and espressos."

The health bar takes up a small space near the downstairs weight machines area in the fitness center. While enjoying snacks or drinks, members can peruse a local paper at one of two available tables, or watch the news from the TV located on the wall nearby.

"Purchases are even ready to take back to your office," Ms. Carlson said. "Either way, stop on by for a healthier choice of foods the next time you're in the mood for a snack or drink. You'll always get that good feeling when you eat healthy."
