The Air Force Assistance Fund campaign drive at Peterson AFB began March 29 and is scheduled to run through May 10.

The AFAF campaign is an annual on-the-job fundraising appeal conducted among Air Force personnel for the benefit of Air Force personnel. It was established to provide for an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to the Air Force family (active duty, retirees, reservists, guard members, and their dependents, including surviving spouses) in need.

These organizations are the Air Force Village Foundation, the Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Enlisted Village, and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation. There are two ways to contribute to the AFAF - payroll deduction planned allotments and cash. Under the payroll deduction plan, Defense Finance and Accounting Service automatically deducts monthly contributions from military and retiree pay beginning June 1.

The process to donate is simple. Airmen and DoD civilians can contact their unit project officer and tell him or her that you'd like to donate. From there it takes only a few minutes to fill out the form, decide how much money you'd like to give and to which charity you'd like to donate. If you are donating using payroll deduction, you can donate a small amount of money each month for three to 12 months. Another way to donate is with a cash or check donation where you could give a one-time lump sum to any charity of your choice.

The Peterson AFB 2010 AFAF campaign goal has been set at $85,762. All military personnel will be contacted during the first week of the drive by their respective AFAF unit project officers. Installation project officers are Capt. Evan Bonnett, Capt. William Brokaw, and Master Sgt. William Seguin. If you would like to donate and your unit does not have a unit project officer, contact Captain Bonnett.
