If you have ever taken advantage of base legal assistance services, you are probably familiar with the procedure of coming by the office, picking up general pamphlets and worksheets and coming back later to see an attorney during walk-in legal assistance times.

While we can't and won't ever remove the necessity of providing you face-to-face service, the legal office now has an easier way to get the background information and the worksheets you need to discuss issues with your family and prepare for your visit with an attorney.

The new website https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil offers three areas that have never been so readily accessible online. First, you can access preventive law material on subjects that matter to you. Second, you can electronically fill-in powers of attorney in preparation for our notary service. Third, you can electronically fill out a worksheet to create that will or advanced medical directive you have been procrastinating about.

After you generate these documents you will receive a ticket number. Bring this number to the Peterson Law Center during legal assistance hours (8 to 9 a.m. Monday and Wednesday, 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Building 350, second floor). The legal staff will review your documents, consult with you regarding their substance, edit them as needed, print them for you and then get them notarized. Filling out your information online will save time as you await your personal legal assistance.

Prepping your worksheets is not the only feature of the new website. It also has handouts on legal matters like divorce and separation, military benefits, or adoption. Plus, there is a client feedback survey that you can fill out online to let us know how our service ranks.

If you create a power of attorney or other worksheet, don't forget to write down your ticket number or ask the website to e-mail it to you. You'll need the number when you come into our office; otherwise you will need to fill out the worksheets by hand when you arrive to our office.
