Staff Sgt. Nicholas Pospischil and his partner Wodan, a military working dog, from the 21st Security Forces Squadron, train on an obstacle course at Kirkuk Regional Air Base, Iraq, in January 2010, during their last deployment together with the 506th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron. Sergeant Pospischil successfully adopted Wodan Jan. 9. Since 2000, military working dogs are eligible for adoption after active-duty service. Law enforcement and dog handlers have first priority to adopt former military working dogs, however, there is still a lengthy adoption process for both the dog and the person wishing to adopt.
