Emma Crawford Coffin Race
MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. – A Peterson Air Force Base team races their way to victory in the 20th annual Emma Crawford Coffin Race Oct. 25 in Manitou Springs. The team, comprised of Airmen from the Vosler NCO Academy and their families, included Senior Master Sgt. Jon Baumeyer, Master Sgt. Jonathan Kiley, Tech. Sgt. Christine “Emma” Orona and her husband Javier Orona, and Tech. Sgt. Brett Lafreniere. This was the third consecutive year the Vosler NCOA fielded a team in the race, improving their finish time each year. The team muscled their coffin 200 yards to the finish line with a winning time of 24.66 seconds. The 100-pound, aircraft-inspired coffin took more than 100 hours to weld and construct. This year’s race drew 50 entries and more than 12,000 spectators. (Courtesy photo)
