Det. 3 change of command
MAUI, Hawaii – Col. David Miller Jr., 21st Operations Group commander, passes the 21st Operations Group, Detachment 3 guidon to Capt. Robert Copely during the Det. 3 change of command ceremony here June 16. Copely assumed command from Capt. Shahn Rashid. Det. 3 is one of three worldwide Ground-based Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance Systems units around the globe that track and identify deep space objects using a series of powerful telescopes, providing space situational awareness to the United States and allies. The detachment operates at the Maui Space Surveillance Complex, located atop the 10,023 foot summit of Haleakala, a dormant volcano. (U.S. Air Force photo)
