9/11 memorial
A steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center attack site in New York City arrived at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station Nov. 19. The beam will be incorporated into a permanent memorial on CMAFS and is expected to be officially unveiled next September. Col. Rusty Wilson, 721st Mission Support Group commander at Cheyenne Mountain, invited a team of engineering students from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to design the memorial, which will be placed in front of the 721 MSG headquarters building to commemorate the people who died Sept. 11, 2001.
