PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The Science and Technology Academy reinforcing basic aviation and space exploration (STARBASE) at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, has job opportunities available to teach science, technology, engineering and math to 5th graders!
There are two part-time instructor positions, one full-time instructor position and one full-time office manager and administrator position. The instructor positions and office manager positions are paid.
All teaching supplies are provided by STARBASE, which means there is no cost. Schools provide transportation to and from STARBASE Peterson for students.
STARBASE was founded in the early 1990’s with the idea that students needed more “hands-on” science and math lessons to keep them excited and engaged.
STARBASE Peterson is the only STARBASE in Colorado and was established in December 2014. We teach a Department of Defense approved, 25-hour curriculum followed by activities after each lesson. We average 1,300 students that come to us from surrounding school districts, private schools and charter schools, as well as homeschool students.
We focus on Title 1 schools, since approximately 75% of their students receive free or reduced-cost lunches. Our target audience is children who fall into high-risk categories. These risks may include: being from a single parent household, changing schools two or more times other than the normal progression, having Cs or lower grades, being from a low-income family, or repeating an earlier grade.
Students come to our STEM enrichment program either one day per week for five weeks, or Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We also have summer programs and outreach programs; the hours may vary.
