Peterson aero club receives safety award

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The Peterson aero club received an award for 10,000 hours of mishap free flying Nov. 24 during its monthly meeting.

Col. Stephen N. Whiting, 21st Space Wing commander, along with Col. Emily Buckman, 21st Mission Support Group commander and Lt. Col. John Silverman, 21st Force Support Squadron commander, presented the Aero Club with the 2009 Flying Safety Milestone Award.

The Rocky Mountain U.S. Air Force Flight Training Center, better known as the aero club, has been training pilots on the base since 1951. The aero club has eight aircraft available every month to train pilots, from private pilot to airline transport pilots. The club also has two twin engine aircraft for multi-engine training, and the aircraft can be used for temporary duty travel or personal trips, too. The basic trainers are military Cessna T-41Cs and the instrument trainers are military T-41Bs. A Cessna 182 with retractable gear is available for commercial and certified flight instructor training.

Any of the aircraft can be used to fly cross country, and its prices are less than flight training off base. The aero club is located on the flight line in Hangar 133, at 325 Hamilton Ave.
