Logistics and Operations Support Squadron

The Logistics and Operations Support Squadron (L&OSS) was activated on Oct. 13, 2023, as part of the stand-up of the new Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Delta dedicated to the current and planned Global Positioning System (GPS) constellation. L&OSS provides critical support to the GPS Ground Systems and Space Vehicles with both Software and Hardware updates to maintain effective command and control of legacy GPS Block II satellites as well as current and future Block III satellites.

GPS satellites orbit the earth every 12 hours, emitting continuous navigation signals. With the proper equipment, users can receive at least four satellite signals to calculate time, location and velocity. The signals are so accurate, time can be figured to within a millionth of a second, velocity within a fraction of a mile per hour and location to within 100 feet. Receivers have been developed for use in spacecraft, aircraft, ships, land vehicles, and precision-guided munitions, as well as for hand carrying.

In line with the new PNT Delta’s goal of streamlining unity of effort for capability development, L&OSS’s engineering, software, and sustainment experts work alongside industry partners to continuously improve, when needed, the current GPS constellation PNT mission capabilities.

Examples of L&OSS support to GPS include ground and space-based systems technical refreshes, cyber security improvements, cryptography updates, improved automation, and improved signal protection.  Directly supporting the Warfighter are software and hardware updates providing increased contingency operations capabilities, improved Military-Code (M-Code) access and power, and automated capabilities such as flex power, in response to evolving end-user needs.
Formerly designated SSC/CGG as part of the GPS Product Support Delta, L&OSS transferred from Space Systems Command’s Military Communications and Position, Navigation, and Timing Program Executive Office upon activation of the PNT Delta (P) on Oct. 13, 2023.  Providing direct sustainment support to the GPS enterprise, the unit is critical to the mission of the new PNT Delta (P).
