21st Logistics Readiness Squadron


The mission of the 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron supports full spectrum worldwide logistics; supporting mission success in air, space, cyberspace and on land.

The 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron executes it’s mission utilizing a combination of vehicles, material handling equipment, IT systems and facilities. Specifically, the squadron operates a 118-vehicle fleet consisting of 3 aircraft loaders, 9 refuelers, 10 forklifts, 15 buses and numerous other general purpose vehicles. Additionally, the squadron operates numerous IT systems, which integrate base operations with the Air Force’s enterprise supply chain and joint deployment construct. Moreover, the squadron is comprised of three flights consisting of the Deployment & Distribution, Material Management and Vehicle Management Flights in addition to a Squadron Headquarters Section and Fuels Contract Oversight Team.

Originally the squadron was constituted as the 21st Motor Vehicle Squadron on Nov. 15, 1952 and activated Jan. 1, 1953 at George AFB, California. They moved to Chambley Air Base, France Dec. 12, 1954 where they were re-designated as the 21st Transportation Squadron Oct. 1, 1956 before inactivation Feb. 8, 1958. The 21st Transportation Squadron was reactivated May 6, 1996 at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska before being inactivated once more Dec. 19, 1991. Aug. 29, 2002 the squadron was re-designated the 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron and activated once more at Peterson SFB, Colorado Oct. 1, 2002.

After coming to Peterson SFB the 21st LRS was aligned under the 21st Mission Support Group. The activation merged logisticians and functions from the 21st Space Wing Execution and Plans and the 21st Logistics Support Squadron. The merger created the following functions within the unit; Deployment and Distribution, Material Management, Vehicle Management, and Fuels Management. In July of 2011, all previously contracted functions, except Fuels Management, were in-sourced to government operations.
