Notice Regarding Abandoned Vehicles – Effective Nov. 1, Peterson Air Force Base security forces resumed processing vehicles appearing to have been abandoned from to the July hail storm.

As a reminder, personnel who choose to operate a motor vehicle on a military installation gave their consent to the removal and impoundment of their vehicle if, among other reasons, they park illegally or, in a manner to interfere with military operations, create a safety hazard or abandon the vehicle.

Except in special circumstances, once a Department of Defense Form 2504 Abandoned Vehicle Notice is placed on a vehicle, the owner is permitted three days to remove the vehicle before impoundment action is initiated. If after three days the vehicle has not been removed, it will be removed by a contracted wrecker service. If the vehicle remains unclaimed after 120 days, the vehicle and property therein will be disposed of as permitted by Department of Defense directives and United States Code. Violators are responsible for all costs of towing, storage, and impounding of vehicles.

Though not all inclusive, the 21st Security Forces Squadron would like to remind personnel of base parking rules:

-Private resale lot (lemon lot): vehicle owners must register their vehicle with the PAFB Outdoor Recreation office prior to using the lot. Failing to do so may cause vehicles to be cited and potentially towed.

- Boats, trailers, and recreational vehicles: these vehicles must be registered with ODR before authorized for storage on PAFB. Additionally, parking of boats; boat, horse, and utility trailers; and recreation vehicles designed for sleeping are generally prohibited within the housing area. Recreation vehicles may be parked in housing for a period of 24 hours to load, unload, or to clean only. The lodging office may issue temporary parking passes to lodging occupants.

- Space available travel parking: passengers wishing to leave their vehicle in the Space A parking area when traveling will register with the passenger terminal before leaving PAFB.

- Personally operated vehicle storage: the long term parking area located within the 21st Space Wing Logistics Readiness Squadron compound is intended for personnel deploying 30 – 180 or more days. Personnel must register with the 21st LRS and comply with their procedures.

-Housing: vehicles must be parked in driveways or authorized parking areas only. For example, there is no parking within 15 feet of intersections, on top of curbsides or sidewalks, where the vehicle blocks access to garages, carports, or prevents emergency personnel access. Parking is prohibited in front of bus stops, mailboxes, on lawns, in common areas, or within 15 feet of fire hydrants.

Traffic – During October, SFS, along with facility parking wardens issued 27 traffic citations. Excessive speed and parking continue to make up the bulk of the infractions. Suspendable offenses consisted of excessive speed, driving while using a cell phone, driving without a valid license, and operating an unregistered vehicle.

Blotter – SFS responded to about 120 calls for service during October. A summary of the blotter's calls for service is below. The purpose is to deliver a chronological listing of Security Forces responses on Peterson AFB. Certain responses such as medical responses or responses which may compromise law enforcement sensitive information are not included.
