Peterson holds Annual Individual Ready Reserve Muster

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, COLO. -- The 21st Force Support Squadron in coordination with the 302nd Airlift Wing held their Annual Individual Ready Reserve Muster at Peterson Air Force Base April 23.

The muster brought in more than 200 Individual Ready Reservists who are currently residing within a 150-mile radius of Peterson AFB.

The morning included briefings and stations that ensured all members were still eligible to be called upon if a situation emerges that would require their activation.

"In the case that congress declares a state of national emergency or declares war, these individuals can be activated at any time," said 2nd Lt. Riley Coates, 21st FSS customer support officer in charge. "The purpose of this event is to make that process as efficient as possible for them to be reactivated."

Following the initial briefings, members then processed through several stations before departing. These stations included medical, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve recruiting, Veteran's Assistance benefits, military identification and civilian employment information.

With expectations of 100 attendees, 21st FSS members were surprised to see the initial check-in line extending as far back as the Summit Center's parking lot.

However, handling the additional reservists was not an issue with the system 21st FSS had in place.

"This is a great turnout," said Maj. Susan Murphy, Air Reserve Personnel Center promotion policy and procedures division chief. "I don't think we were expecting this event to be that big based on last year's numbers, but this is a good sign that we have a ready force all around us. With everything happening in the world, it's very important that we have another force ready to serve."

By completing another year's IRR Muster, Peterson AFB solidifies another group of individuals who are ready to serve if the need should ever arise.
