Recycle yard ROEs

The recycle yard, located west of the 21st Civil Engineer Squadron headquarters building 1324, is designated for recycling government-generated waste, not as a dump site or personal landfill for residents or other base users.

Recently, the fenced recycle area has been littered with couches, wood pallets, televisions and cardboard boxes, creating a safety hazard for those using the area for its intended use. This problem has been exacerbated during the recent permanent change of station season.

Users can recycle plastic, paper and aluminum, but should not leave trash or wood waste or large items like furniture and appliances. Base residents are encouraged to use the recycle and waste services provided by Tierra Vista Communities. TVC residents should call 597-7200 to schedule the removal of large items.

Any recyclables in the yard should be placed in the appropriate container, not stacked on the ground; material placed outside of the appropriate containers will not be removed. If a container is full, return to the yard at a later date. Refrain from misusing the recycle yard and do your part to help keep Peterson AFB clean.

For more information about the recycling yard or Peterson AFB's recycling program, contact Phil Chase at 556-7707. As an additional information source, the website www.springsgov.com has a wealth of information regarding recycling, composting, containers and recycle locations. El Paso County also has a website www.elpasoco.com (search "waste") which lists businesses that will accept unwanted household waste.

If you are a user of the recycle yard, keep the following rules in mind:
- No wood (including wood pallets shipping containers, particle board, lumber)
- No yard waste (including trees, plants, soils and lawn clippings)
- No hazardous waste
- No hazardous materials
- No appliances
- No electronics
- No government property
- No furniture
- No petroleum products (including tires, batteries, used oil and antifreeze)
