In a covert and daring nighttime insertion, an elite team of company grade officers from the 21st Space Wing launched OPERATION SPIRIT ROCK Sept. 19.

Armed only with two cans of paint and a desire to strike fear deep into the 50th Space Wing, the team maneuvered deep into the enemy stronghold under cover of darkness with the objective of leaving their mark at the 50th SW commander's house. The team successfully completed their mission, marking the enemy territory with the 21st SW logo in advance of the 21st SW vs. 50th SW softball game the following day.

"We conducted a route recce (reconnaissance) beforehand and posted overwatch during the operation," said 1st. Lt. John Rambo, whose name was changed to protect ongoing operations in theater. "We wanted to send a clear message that the 21st Space Wing Knights are in it to win it."

Following the bold night-time raid, the strike team returned to base to begin preparations for the big game.

The decisive softball game, dubbed the "Space World Series," takes place at 3 p.m. Sept. 20 at Peterson's field 1. The Pikes Peak Top-3 Association is selling lunch for $5 starting at 2 p.m.
