Cop’s corner Published April 22, 2014 By 21st Security Forces Squadron PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- During March, the 21st Security Forces Squadron, along with facility parking wardens, issued 151 traffic citations. Citations included registration and driver's license offenses, operating a vehicle while using a cellular telephone, and failing to stop or yield. Drivers were suspended for various offenses including unlawfully using a cell phone. Tip of the Month (Traffic) ¬Vehicle operators on PAFB and operators of government-owned vehicles will not use cellular or wireless telephone devices unless the vehicle is safely parked or unless they are using a hands-free device. The wearing of any other portable headphones, earphones or other listening devices (except for hands-free cellular phones) while operating a motor vehicle is prohibited. Use of those devices impairs driving and masks or prevents recognition of emergency signals, alarms, announcements, the approach of vehicles and human speech. Whenever possible, distractions such as eating and drinking, operating radios, and using other hand-held electronic devices such as CD players, global positioning equipment, and so on, should only be done when the vehicle is safely parked. Calls for Service - Security forces responded to 243 calls for service during March, including: - 58 human error alarm activations - 22 medical responses. - Two responses involving drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs Tip of the Month - Security forces tends to see an increase in child neglect during warmer months. Warmer weather is a great reason to get outside; however, keep an eye on your children, and adhere to the Child and Youth Supervision Guidelines established by the 21st Space Wing commander. Refer to the youth center or family advocacy for more information. Off Base Incidents - Security forces receive notification of some off base arrests or incidents involving military members or government property. These included two incidents of driving under the influence of alcohol. Security forces also conducted more than 440 community policing patrols such as walk throughs of dormitories, the fitness center and other high traffic locations.
