Cyber inspection coming to Peterson Published July 7, 2015 PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- From Aug. 3-7, the Defense Information Systems Agency will conduct a Command Cyber Readiness Inspection at Peterson Air Force Base. The CCRI is a U.S. Cyber Command inspection which focuses on: · Validate 21st Space Wing cybersecurity compliance against Department of Defense standards · Provide situational awareness on the 21st SW's cybersecurity posture · Identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities on the DoD Information Network · Ensure the 21st SW can fight through cyber threats The inspection is the equivalent of a Unit Effectiveness Inspection of the base's network and supporting security practices. While the 21st Communications Squadron is taking the lead on cyber preparedness, all Team Pete members have a role to play. So what can you do to ensure we are safeguarding our networks? · Leave NIPR computers on at all times to ensure they are receiving vulnerability patches · Reboot your computer daily (best practice: restart computer at the end of every duty day) · Power up and log into SIPR machines every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. · Directly connect laptops and/or tablets to the network twice a week · Always remove and safeguard your NIPR Common Access Card before leaving your workstation · Always remove and safeguard your SIPR token (best practice: secure the token in a locked drawer or GSA approved container) · Properly mark all communications equipment with classification stickers/use document cover sheets · Label disc media with proper classification markings · Know how to respond to network security incidents (21st SW Form 2) · Know your unit Cybersecurity liaison · Never bring portable/wireless electronic devices within three meters of a classified system · Do not plug any electronic devices into NIPR or SIPR machines (thumb drives, cell phones, MP3 players, or any device that stores information) These actions directly correlate to the Peterson Air Force Base Cyberspace Readiness Policy dated Feb. 9, 2015. While a CCRI only occurs every 24 months our systems are always under attack and it is up to each of us to ensure we are doing our part in securing our networks.
