Tops in Blue tours Peterson with one of our own

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --  1st Lt. Ethan Frazier, 21st Force Support Squadron chief of military personnel and Tops in Blue technical director, returned to Peterson for a Tops in Blue performance in Hangar 140 July 1.

Approximately 300 people attended the performance themed "Freedom's Song" promoting community relations, recruiting efforts and serving as ambassadors for the United States of America and the U.S. Air Force.

The team sang songs from "Shut up and Dance," by Walk the Moon, to theme songs from the Disney movie Hercules. Not only did Hercules make an appearance, but Marvel's Avengers team showed up singing and dancing for the crowd and interacting with the audience.

Throughout the performance children started dancing in the aisle and even the technical crew working the lights, audio and video were seen nodding their heads and tapping their toes to the tunes.

The technical and performing team began their tour in March, putting on their first shows in June and will continue to travel to 20 countries putting on 75 shows in seven months.

The team is responsible for transporting, loading, unloading and setting up more than 65,000 pounds of staging, lighting, audio, video and special effects equipment required for their show, with the help of the technical staff of course.

The technical staff, led by Frazier, sets up and works with the show's audio, lighting, staging and video equipment. Frazier ensures all the technical components are working properly and makes sure the staff has the resources to complete their role in the show.

"Using this really expensive equipment to its max potential and being able to teach the (Airmen) under me something I'm passionate about is awesome," said Frazier. "It's really exciting to teach someone something that I love and in return they get passionate about it too is really rewarding."

Frazier's passion for entertainment production goes back to about six years before joining the Air Force. After discovering the Tops in Blue opportunity to travel and become their technical director, Frazier applied and didn't need to think twice.

The Tops in Blue performing team is made up of all active duty military members that are required to complete an intense 60-day training period at Joint Base San Antonio, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, also known as "Home of Tops in Blue." The performers must master their skills in vocal, instrument, choreography and staging to become their own show team.
