It’s a Thriller night: 21st CS to host a Haunted House Published Oct. 13, 2015 By Lori O'Donley 21st Space Wing Public Affairs PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- It's that time of year where Jack-O-Lanterns, scarecrows, and skeletons grace the front of homes while black cats slink their sneaky, little tails capitalizing on the seasonal myths and superstitions. The 21st Communications Squadron is gearing up to scare, then treat, the brave souls who dare to visit their building. The 21st Communications Squadron is hosting a Haunted House on Oct. 23 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in building 1038, which is at the corner of Stewart and Suffolk Ave. This is the second year Tech. Sgt. Anthony Renner, NCOIC, 21st Communications Squadron quality assurance, helped put this event together for Peterson Air Force Base. "It's a great team building event, at least 30 members are doing it," said Renner. "Everyone gets an opportunity to help out." The haunted house will be configured in the 21st CS building 1038, where it will begin at the loading dock, run through the building and cubicles, before ending at the rear of the building. Two scare levels will be available, both designed to thrill. Green will be less scary than red. Red means it's on, our team can scare them as much as they want, said Renner. Minor children can go through the haunted house, and participation is up to the discretion of parents and guardians. For those scared to walk through, a children's area will be available in the conference room for ages 4 through 10. Sharon Cantwell along with three volunteers will entertain those too young for the house with arts and crafts, games, and color sheets. This service is intended only for the time it takes to walk through the haunted house and a sign in/sign out sheet will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all children. Volunteers are not trained to watch children with special needs. "It's a family thing," said Renner. "We're doing it because it's fun, it's free, and it's a safe opportunity to do something fun and get scared." Guides will group five to seven people together and provide a safety brief prior to entering. At the end of the guided tour, participants will receive candy donated by the 21st Communications Squadron. In addition to candy, the Key Spouses Club will participate again this year by handing out warm beverages. No flashlights or weapons (toys or otherwise) will be allowed to prevent distractions within the house, and costumes are optional. Bathrooms will not be available in the haunted house, due to their location within the scenes, but at the Club across the street.
