Peterson Bowling Center gets a facelift

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Renovations are underway for the Peterson Air Force Base Bowling Center and expected to be completed by Dec. 15.

The bowling center was in need of an update to old equipment for some time and funding came just in time to install new ball returns, carpet and furniture said Larry Mullis, 21st Force Support Squadron bowling center manager.

"The new upgrades to the bowling center not only provide a more modern look and feel to the facility, but it also makes it more comfortable for patrons," he said. "Hopefully the more homey feel brings in more customers to use the amenities we offer."

New ball returns allow for better functionality of the center and less frustration when customers want to relax, while the new carpet replaced worn out carpet that was there for nearly 20 years, Mullis said.

Carpet was replaced throughout the entire facility and moved out approximately 100 inches on the concourse, he said. With the added carpet space, couches and coffee tables replaced the old hard-topped tables with swivel chairs typically found at bowling alleys. New balls racks combined with tables and bar stools were also added.

In addition to the cosmetic changes made, the snack bar also saw some differences. The food service department from The Club took over at both the bowling center and golf course. He said they each serve the same foods, which allows them to save money and provide the best food to customers simply by working together.

Overall, Mullis said the upgrades are just one part to a several step process to improve the general appearance of the bowling center. Eventually hopes are to also upgrade and move the counter, upgrade the walls and more.

"It's all about moving forward and keeping up with standards," he said.

Other amenities available at the bowling center include a conference room, the Golf Zone, Pro Shop and lessons for both bowling and golf. In addition, Airmen who purchase lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. are able to bowl up to three free games if they are in uniform.

After final touches are made and furniture installed, Mullis said there will be a customer appreciation night Dec. 18 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. featuring up the three free games of bowling.
