Although it was only closed for renovation for a short time, the Peterson Chapel wanted to let people know that despite the ongoing construction going on in Bldg. 664, the Eclipse Cyber Café is open and ready for business.

To highlight the benefits of the café for Airmen in the dorms, the Chapel sponsored a grand re-opening ceremony featuring food, games and fun Jan 27, 2016. Airmen from the dorms, as well as 21st Space Wing leadership joined the chapel to rechristen the café.

"We are hosting this event to let people know that we are still open, despite the construction going on and Airmen are more than welcome to come here for the fun," said Chaplain (Capt.) Joshua Flynn, 21st Space Wing chapel.

The café, which is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 10 p.m., features video and board games, televisions, computers, wireless internet and a coffee bar free to Airmen in the dorms, Flynn said. Everything provided, from the free coffee, smoothies and games, to the free food on Wednesdays at 5 p.m., is sponsored by the Peterson Chapel.

Not only is it a great resource for the single Airmen and Soldiers living on base, said Flynn, it offers leaders the opportunity to come out and connect with their service members.

"Our leadership does come out and engage with the Airmen," he said. "This has been a great place for leaders to come out and spend time mentoring their Airmen."
Flynn said they also try to host quarterly special events for the Airmen. Over the past several months, they've hosted a pumpkin carving contest, a gingerbread building competition and video game tournaments.

The café also functions as a home base for Airmen Against Drunk Driving on Fridays and Saturdays, providing a the resources that enable the very important mission to happen, said Flynn.

"The cyber café is one of the best commodities we have here on base," said Airman 1st Class Hersey Mayo, 21st Aerospace Medicine Squadron, dorm council member and frequent visitor to the café. "I would say to every new Airman definitely come to the cyber café and give it a try. You will have a new adventure every time you come here."

Whether Airmen are looking for a way to save money and still have fun, or just looking to connect with their peers or leaders, the Eclipse Cyber Café is open and ready to accommodate.
