Powers Blvd and Marksheffel Rd construction could cause delays/ gate closures Published March 22, 2016 21st Space Wing Public Affairs PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Transportation improvements along the Powers and Marksheffel corridors could affect access to the PAFB West and East gates at various times over the next year. "The Colorado Department of Transportation and El Paso County are going to be working on widening Powers Blvd and Marksheffel Road near Peterson AFB," said Glenn Messke, 21st Civil Engineer Squadron. The initial phases of construction for Powers Blvd project started in early March with completion scheduled for year-end, while the Marksheffel Rd project timeline will extend into Spring 2017, he said. 21 CES is working closely with CDOT and El Paso County to ensure prior planning eases traffic congestion for access to the base. They are also working to ensure minimal impact on Unit Training Assembly weekends. "These construction projects will improve safety, off-base traffic flow and overall access to the base," said Messke. Once specific construction dates impacting Peterson gate access are known, the information will be posted on the 21st Space Wing Facebook Page.
