Each May, members of the Peterson Space Force Base law enforcement community, along with partners at the Colorado Springs Police Department, gather to commemorate National Police Week, an observance established on Oct. 1, 1962, by President John F. Kennedy to serve as a reminder of the sacrifices of those who wear the badge.

From May 11–15, the 21st Security Forces Squadron held a multitude of events here. The week’s events included a 5-kilometer run, memorial ruck march, field day and defender challenge.

“Hopefully, the events of this week will continue to strengthen those relationships while fostering new bonds between law enforcement and our communities, both on base and off base,” said U.S. Space Force Col. Kenneth Klock, Space Base Delta 1 and Peterson SFB commander. “Let's use this week as an opportunity for law enforcement agencies to enhance operations, build community trust, and improve public safety.”

For members of the CSPD, serving the community means everything.

“We do it because we have the heart to serve,” said Officer Le Vuongvu, CSPD. “It’s always meaningful to receive that recognition, and anytime we have the opportunity to support events where we can give back, we’re happy to do so. It fills our cup too.”

By honoring those who have served and those who continue to answer the call, the observance highlights the dedication, resilience and shared mission of law enforcement officers.
