PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. -- A new STEM Lending Library at Peterson Space Force Base is helping connect military families and local schools with interactive science and technology learning tools.
The library offers hundreds of STEM items that can be borrowed for free by anyone on Peterson SFB as well as local schools in the Colorado Springs area.
“This is a great resource center for everyone in the community,” said Jackie Wickham, the Peterson Space Force Base School Liason Office program manager. “It's where local school districts, teachers and military parents who homeschool their kids can come and check out really cool robots, 3D pens, building kits, and much more.”
The program is already helping local educators bring new technology into their classrooms. Wickham was able to get nine teachers from McAuliffe Elementary School to a training, where they were given hands-on training with 3D printers, as well as multiple 3D printers for their school.
“Jackie has been a great help with partnering with us and getting tools and materials in our hands, as well as our students' hands to make learning fun and engaging and motivate kids to keep striving and learning,” said Patti Shields, McAuliffe Elementary School STEM coordinator and math tutor.
Community members and educators interested in borrowing items or learning more about the STEM Lending Library can contact Jackie Wickham at (719) 556-3152.
