Space Base Delta 41’s 50th Security Forces Squadron has partnered with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to bring the Blue Envelope Program to Schriever Space Force Base. The program was created to enhance communication between law enforcement and individuals with disabilities that may affect face-to-face interactions, such as individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, dementia or hearing impairments.

Participation in the Blue Envelope Program is entirely voluntary and is a resource for anyone who feels it might assist them or a family member in an interaction with law enforcement. The 50th SFS is making participation in this program more accessible than ever by offering base personnel the opportunity to pick up a Blue Envelope from the base visitor’s center.

“If you would like to take advantage of this great program, all you have to do is go to the base visitor’s center and pick up a Blue Envelope,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Stephanie Contreras, 50th SFS operations officer. “You can then place your car registration and proof of insurance inside, along with specific information about your disability. Present the envelope during any law enforcement interaction to quickly communicate that you may need additional support.”

Materials available are all free and include blue envelopes for vehicles or homes, wallet-sized cards and window decals.

“This program provides our Defenders with clear visual indicators to help them respond with added patience, awareness and care,” Contreras said. “The ultimate goal is to create a more understanding and safer environment for everyone involved.”

This initiative underscores the commitment of the 50th SFS and SBD 41 to the well-being and safety of every member of the Schriever community.

The Schriever SFB Visitor’s Center is located at 1560 Enoch Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80912. The center is open Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The center is closed on weekends and holidays.
