PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Following the lapse of funding Oct. 1, 2025, and resultant government employee furlough, certain Space Base Delta 1 services here will be affected until funding is appropriated (see related graphic).
The Peterson aquatics center, bowling center, library, military and family readiness center, civilian personnel office and official mail center are all closed. The SBD 1 legal office will not be conducting legal assistance, with the exception of will and legal assistance appointments for emergencies and deployers only; walk in notary and power of attorney hours remain the same.
All other offices will remain open, including finance, the base exchange, commissary, child development centers and medical services, although customer service hours may be limited. Customers are advised to call ahead to verify availability.
Furloughed GS civilian employees will receive retroactive pay for those furlough periods. Retroactive pay will be provided on the earliest date possible after the lapse ends, regardless of scheduled pay dates. If retroactive pay cannot be provided by the normal pay date for the given pay period, it will be provided as soon as possible thereafter. Employees who have questions regarding the furlough may reference Office of Personnel Management guidance here.
Service members experiencing hardship due to the shutdown may also reach out to helping agencies, including Military One Source, the Air Force Aid Society, Joining Community Forces and Home Front Military Network, three agencies which specialize in helping service members, veterans and their families. Additionally, various financial institutions are offering zero interest emergency loans to members who may experience financial hardship during the shutdown.
Civilian employees affected by the shutdown may contact community resources including the Civilian Employee Assistance Program or dial 866-580-9078, Care and Share, Project Cope, the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund, or their financial institution for programs available to them. Other local community resources can be found at 2-1-1 Colorado; dial 211 or click here.
Furloughed employees are expected to monitor media or the OPM web site for information regarding return to work when the shutdown ends.
