SCHRIEVER SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. -- As technology advances, availability increases and prices decline, drones continue to be a popular gift and hobby for children and adults alike in modern society.
That said, drones have no place on Schriever Space Force Base. Under Space Base Delta 41 policy, Schriever SFB is a “No Drone Zone.” The unauthorized use of drones, also known as Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), is strictly prohibited at Schriever SFB and all federal installations. Schriever SFB holds a National Security UAS Flight Restriction around and over the installation. While drones may seem harmless to unsuspecting users, the threat remains — they could provide our adversaries with intelligence. For the sake of public safety and in the best interest of the Department of Defense and national security, the use of drones is strictly prohibited.
Violations of the drone policy carry serious consequences. Unauthorized drone operations on or near military installations can result in federal charges, substantial fines and potential imprisonment. The Federal Aviation Administration and 50th Security Forces Squadron monitor airspace around Schriever SFB using advanced detection systems. When unauthorized drones are detected, security forces respond immediately, and violators may face prosecution under federal law. Additionally, drones found operating illegally may be confiscated or destroyed as a security measure.
Want to fly your drone legally?
The FAA's B4UFLY app helps users identify safe and legal flying zones away from restricted airspace. Local hobby groups and flying clubs can also direct you to suitable locations for drone operation.
Responsible drone usage protects both national security and ensures that recreational flying remains available for everyone. When in doubt, contact your local authorities or check with the FAA first.
If you see a drone on base, do not approach it or the operator. Instead, contact the Schriever SFB Base Defense Operations Center at 719-567-6464 and provide all details about the drone.
