Knights demonstrate strength, preparedness

We've again demonstrated our strength and preparedness in grand fashion. For the second time in a row, we've won the Aldridge trophy and can proudly display it for two more years.

As I see the trophy, however, I'm reminded not only of a great victory, but also of the combined effort from Air Force Space Command, Team 21 project officers and leads from the Vandenberg AFB Guardian Challenge program office. From the first stages of Guardian Challenge planning to final tear
down, our team showed that we truly provide unsurpassed installation support and protection.

Before teams even arrived, our set
up crews were paving a road for success. Our comm squadron worked closely with AFSPC to establish a central public affairs section. Our security forces teams designed top
notch parking and security plans. Our airfield ops personnel joined forces with teams from the 311th Airlift Support Squadron to develop aircraft parking plans and arrange hangars for numerous GC events. These efforts, while often behind the scenes, were the foundation for a memorable competition.

Execution of this event required the contribution of many different agencies. From feeding and lodging hundreds of personnel to organizing multiple events, several teams emerged as vital contributors. Our services personnel, for example, were engaged in virtually every aspect of the competition. Field activities, crud tournaments and trophy presentations were possible because of your hard work and dedication.

Our medical group also shined, by providing reliable medical support and readiness without sacrificing the highest degree of patient care.

Our contracting, transportation and civil engineering teams deserve a standing ovation. Contract personnel worked feverishly to meet deadlines, fund activities and arrange contracts to boost morale. Our dispatchers and other transportation members developed a system to ensure competitors, distinguished visitors and wing leadership arrived safely and on time to all events. Civil engineering personnel contributed talent and skill by building trophy cases, banners and crests, flag arrangements and much more.

The list goes on - our passenger terminal team worked closely with protocol and judge advocate personnel to coordinate in
bound and outboundflights and bus trips, while our baggage teams worked countless hours and attained 100 percent accountability for hundreds of baggage items.

I would also like to recognize the tremendous performance of our honor guard. You added a patriotic and heartwarming feeling throughout the competition, and your contribution was simply outstanding.

While there is no way I could recognize everyone involved, I want to express my sincere appreciation to all those who made this event a success. We have again demonstrated the teamwork of the 21st Space Wing as we continue to provide unsurpassed installation support and protection. Our efforts have culminated in a championship trophy and a refreshed conviction that we possess the strength and preparedness necessary to save this great nation!
