The Peterson Spouses Club launches an operation to eliminate holiday blues and spread cheer Dec. 11 and 12: Operation Cookie Drop.

The mission is to provide a dozen cookies for each of the approximately 350 servicemembers living in dormitories here.

"It's a way to give back to the servicemen and women in the dorms," said Margie McGee, special activities chair for the Peterson Spouses Club. "A lot of the times they are a long way from home without family in the local area, so this gives us a chance to remember them."

Servicemembers from all branches working at Cheyenne Mountain, Schriever and Peterson will receive cookies.

"They tell me they love it. I think it's a pretty good, feel-good thing," said Master Sgt. Tom O'Neil, unaccompanied housing manager. "The spouses group is doing something good that is tangible" for the servicemembers.

"I used to get the cookies when I was a young Airman and it was a great feeling that someone cared and actually took the time to bring you cookies," Sergeant O'Neill said. "It's a great program."

The group accepts donations of home baked-style cookies from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12 at the chapel, rooms 1 and 2. All types of cookies are wanted; label bags with the type of cookies. Any extra cookies will be distributed to 24-hour work centers such as security forces, the fire department and wing operations center, Ms. McGee said.

Donors are asked to contact Ms. McGee in advance for planning purposes at 596-4033.
