Breakfast turned into a learning experience when the 21st Space Wing Safety Office handed out breakfast burritos to anyone who answered a safety-related question Dec. 12 in Building 845.

"We wanted to do something fun to help people remember some basic safety concepts," said Chief of Safety Lt. Col. Liz Roper. "The holidays can be pretty dangerous and this was a way to wish everyone a happy holiday season and increase their safety awareness."

The questions came directly from safety regulations and is information unit safety representatives should be passing on to people in their office.

"They're all fundamental questions everyone should know," Colonel Roper said. "We pulled a lot of the questions from the hot items that have come up recently, like motorcycle safety."

More than 140 home-made burrito prizes were offered. Participants didn't have to answer the question correctly to get a breakfast treat, they just had to try.

"I'm not going to tell someone they can't have a burrito just because they got the question wrong," said safety's Lucky Harris. "I will take the opportunity to educate them and tell them the right answer. This is a chance for us to raise awareness."

With the holiday season well underway, the safety reminders may help keep Airmen out of trouble.

"We want them to remember safety fundamentals and just to raise awareness," Colonel Roper said. "I think raising awareness in a fun way may help it stick, and when a person is faced with a situation they just might remember that question they or their buddy answered."
