Peterson to ‘Crews into Shape’ Published March 12, 2007 By Jennifer Ledford 21st Space Wing Public Affairs PETERSON AFB, Colo. -- The 2007 campaign to "Crews into Shape" kicked off March 4. For four weeks, teams of any two to 10 people in the Department of Defense family will participate in the team approach to wellness by improving nutrition and exercise habits. In 2001, the Navy Environmental Health Center launched the "Crews into Shape" challenge to encourage and support physical activity and improved nutrition within the entire DOD family, civilian workers and family members. In 2006, Peterson jumped onboard with more than 280 participants. In celebration of National Nutrition Month, "Crews into Shape" promotes healthy lifestyles throughout all the branches of the military and emphasizes strong work groups through its team initiative. The program awards points for exercising, eating fruits and vegetables, drinking water/fluids, and maintaining or achieving a goal weight, in addition to team bonuses based on the team's weekly average. Crew leaders register teams, motivate team members and provide some administrative duties throughout the challenge. Providing incentives for leading scorers, the program's main goal is "to show people it's not as difficult as they might think to lead a healthy lifestyle," said Health Education Program Manager Amy Patsch. Support your DOD family at Peterson while teams of all ages and ranks compete to improve and maintain healthy living. Click here for information.
