Lease agreement ensures Peterson families remain in homes with no disruption Published April 30, 2007 PETERSON AFB, Colo. -- Tierra Vista Communities, the privatization project here, is encouraging all Peterson housing residents to sign their Tenant Lease Agreement, or lease, during upcoming lease signing events. All Airmen currently living in, or moving into, on base family housing will sign the same TLA in preparation for the transition to privatized family housing. The TLA is a required element of the transition to privatized family housing, which is currently planned to occur in July. "This document is very similar to a conventional lease Airmen would be required to sign if they were renting a home in the community," says Bob Mathis, Tierra Vista asset manager. "A significant amount of effort has gone into writing this agreement to ensure that the rights, duties and obligations of the military member and Tierra Vista Communities are clearly identified in the agreement. After careful review of the TLA by the (Peterson) Office of the SJA and the Office of General Counsel, we are confident that the interests of all are adequately protected." The TLA is a document that begins an allotment (rent) which will be equal to the Basic Allowance for Housing at the dependant rate. Even though Airmen will be signing the TLA now, their rent allotment will not begin until TVC assumes operations. Signing the TLA is a requirement for remaining in base family housing after the transition date. The goal for Peterson is to have all TLAs signed prior to transition. Some of the benefits of signing the TLA early include: · A seamless transition from government to privatized housing · Signing prior to deployment eliminates the need for a Special Power of Attorney · Ensures families can remain in their home after transition this summer An informational briefing is being held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 9 at the base auditorium to inform residents on the TLA document and answer any questions about privatized housing. Representatives from both Peterson Air Force Base and Tierra Vista Communities are participating in the event. As part of the privatization project, all but 15 homes at Peterson AFB will be replaced with new homes over the next six years. The revitalization of Peterson community housing is part of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative, a critical component in the effort to eliminate inadequate housing and foster a better quality of life for U.S. servicemembers and their families. Actus Lend Lease, a leader in creating public/private community developments, was selected by the U.S. Air Force as the preferred developer for Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB and Los Angeles AFB. Tierra Vista plans to break ground and begin construction on new homes in spring 2008.
