Airman 1st Class Jonathan Kidwell, 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron, evens out concrete on the Balad Air Base tarmac in Iraq. Since their arrival, the deployed 21st Civil Engineer Squadron members have poured 1,894 cubic meters of concrete to increase aircraft parking and maintenance space on the base’s flightline. The Airmen have also enabled the fixed/rotary wing hot pit areas for multiple weapons systems and bolstered close air support by 20 percent. They have completed taxiway repairs, and built a 4,000 square-foot concrete pad for a munitions storage area and foreign object and debris checkpoint. The team is working on projects to increase the unmanned aerial vehicle footprint in this area of responsibility. Airman Kidwell is deployed from Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. (U.S. Air Force photo)
