Eco-Knight Spotlight Published June 17, 2008 By Corey Dahl 21st Space Wing Public Affairs PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Who: Airman 1st Class Aarial Vallejo, 21st Comptroller Squadron What she's doing to go green: Airman Vallejo said she's been "green" since childhood. "I hate to see littering," she said. "I absolutely hate seeing or even smelling exhaust. Seeing these things on a regular basis has made me try to help out the community." As dorm resident, Airman Vallejo has participated in "Dorm Clean-Up," helping pick up litter around the dorm building. She's also big on recycling - using recycle bins when she sees them and, when they're not around, keeping recyclables in a bag in her car until she's able to recycle them. She buys recycled and reused items whenever possible and has changed out her old incandescent light bulbs for more energy efficient compact fluorescents. Eco-friendly benefits: Airman Vallejo said being green simply makes her feel good. "The best benefit for me would be to know that, in some way, shape or form, I was able to do my part in helping the environment."
