During the past few weeks, residents traveling on Stewart Avenue may have noticed a bit more traffic than in the past. As construction continues on Peterson's first brand-new Tierra Vista Community , Tierra Vista Communities urges everyone to use caution in these areas as traffic congestion developes near the development sites.

Development of TVC's first all-new neighborhood is well underway and as a result, large construction trucks are traveling on the north side of Stewart Ave (former Mitchell Road site) across to the former driving and skeet range. Tierra Vista Communities is reminding residents to be aware of the presence of these trucks and use extreme caution when traveling around the construction sites.

"With the addition of brand new neighborhoods comes some minor inconveniences and disturbances to the residents living here at Peterson," said Jim Mullen, TVC project director. "We are reminding anyone who drives, walks or runs near the construction site to be aware of their surroundings, follow directions and use caution. These situations will arise as we continue to build and improve the community but, as a result, new neighborhoods will be here offering residents larger homes with more amenities."

In order to maintain the safest roadways possible and make any inconveniences as minor as possible, TVC has brought in flag men to direct traffic, allowing the large construction vehicles to enter roadways. These individuals will be dressed in orange vests, hard hats and will be holding stop signs. TVC asks that all cyclists, motorists and pedestrians please be aware of these flag men and follow their instructions.

"Safety of our residents is our number one concern," said Gary Wilson, TVC senior construction manager. "Tierra Vista Communities and Actus Lend Lease implement above and beyond industry standards to ensure the safety of all residents. We ask all persons traveling near these construction areas to please be safe and drive carefully."

Although the major trucking activity in this area will end in two to three weeks, construction for TVC's new neighborhoods will be ongoing over the next 24 months. TVC will keep residents informed as the construction continues and will notify residents of any potential road closures or construction-related traffic congestion.

Tierra Vista Communities is a 50-year partnership created between the Department of the Air Force and Actus Lend Lease through the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI). Development on Peterson commenced in April and is slated for completion by 2013.
