Fire near Peterson AFB

Six fire trucks from Peterson AFB responded with the Colorado Springs Fire Department and airport operations to suppress a brush fire south of the runway on airport property July 11. 

The Peterson Fire Department responded to the fire at 1:24 p.m. 

No danger is reported to the community on or off base. Citizens are asked to avoid the affected area south of the flight line near Bradley Road between Powers Boulevard and Marksheffel Road. The fire is currently not affecting air traffic for the Colorado Springs Airport. 

"Our first priority is to safeguard life and prevent property damage," said Col. Jay Raymond, Peterson AFB commander. "Our highly trained fire personnel have responded to the scene to assist in controlling the fire." 

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
