Peterson's new base housing development reached another important milestone Oct. 20, as the first foundation for the project was poured.

Base officials and eager Airmen watched as crews poured the first slab of concrete for what will eventually be a field grade officer home. Tierra Vista Communities plans to build 93 field grade officer, company grade officer and senior non-commissioned officer homes in this first phase of development. About 24 to 30 of those homes are slated to be move-in ready between April and June 2009; the rest of phase one will be completed by November of 2009.

"Thanks to TVC and our Civil Engineer Squadron for the hard work in getting us to this significant milestone," said Col. Jay Raymond, 21st Space Wing commander, who was on site for the first foundation pouring. "This fantastic partnership resulted in us being ahead of schedule for initial construction."

In all, TVC will build 597 new homes on Peterson over the next few years as part of a privatized housing agreement with the base. The new homes will feature significant upgrades compared to the base's current housing stock, including amenities such as walk-in closets, two-car garages, and energy efficient appliances. Tierra Vista is also building new playgrounds, a community center and walking trails in the housing area.
