A bakers paradise came to the Peterson Chapel Dec. 16, as holiday cookie donations were dropped off for the Peterson Spouses Club annual Cookies for the Troops drive.

The Peterson Spouses Club had collected more than 500 dozen cookies toward their goal of 650 dozen as of the afternoon of Dec. 16.

Mollie Raymond, the wife of Col. Jay Raymond, 21st Space Wing commander and a Spouses Club volunteer, said that a variety of cookies were donated through an "outpouring of support."

Holiday cookies, some with elaborate decorations, filled the tables along with cocoa packages and brown bags with drawings. Airmen and outside non-profit organizations donated dozens of cookies to this operation of compassion.

The goal is to provide 18 cookies to each Airman in the dorms and Peterson's gate guards, said Amy Wren, the spouses club coordinator for the program.

"The number really fluctuates, but we always have enough for every one," she said. "First Sergeants will deliver to the dorms. This is nice - they (Airmen) know the community is behind them."

About 40 volunteers assisted in bagging the cookies in the evening of Dec. 16 in an assembly line style. The cookie drive is in its fourth year.
