EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Imagine being four years old, waking up on Christmas morning, and realizing Santa forgot to visit your house. The Walton County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), with the help of the 20th Space Control Squadron (20 SPCS) at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., made it a point to prevent this exact scenario from happening to many local children with their annual Santa Patrol project.

"The people of Walton County provide a lot for us here at Site C-6, a range that is 35 miles east of Eglin. The least we can do is donate a few hours of our time to brighten someone's day and spread the Christmas spirit to those who otherwise may not have that opportunity," said Senior Airman Elena Sawyer, 20 SPCS Space Console Operator.

Over the past 20 years, the Santa Patrol project has been able to touch the lives of over 10,000 children by providing them the Christmas they deserve. Last year alone, project members were able to provide donated gifts for 478 local Walton County children. This year, however, due to funding issues, WCSO was only able to reach 175 children. The members of 20 SPCS were able to help make the holiday season better for 50 families.

"This project was a joy for everyone involved." Susan Brannon, a sensor contractor at Site C-6 said. "I'm sure the holidays will be that much brighter knowing all those smiling faces will be opening their presents on Christmas morning!"
