First Knight Published July 28, 2009 By 21st Aerospace Medicine Squadron PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Staff Sgt. Chris Bowens was selected for this week's First Knight award. This award is designed to recognize outstanding Airmen and civilians each week for the work they do every day. Name: Staff Sgt. Chris Bowens Unit: 21st Aerospace Medicine Squadron Duty Title: Bioenvironmental engineering technician Hometown: Greenville, S.C. Time assigned to unit: 2 years, 7 months Hobbies: Listening to music, going to the gym and spending time with family Time in service: 10 years, 4 months Favorite music: R&B and rap Last good movie seen: Taken If you were Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force for the day, how would you change the Air Force? I would implement a cheaper childcare program for military members and dependents. The childcare program rates and hours definitely need attention to accommodate the Air Force's up-tempo transition. Why selected? "Staff Sgt. Bowens was the lead bioenvironmental engineering technician during a recent occupational health air quality investigation. He ensured all occupational health and safety standards were met and base personnel were properly protected against potential hazards. He validated a safe working environment for the building involved. Staff Sgt. Bowens continues to lead the way by encouraging troops to continue pursuing educational opportunities on and off duty." - Tech. Sgt. Teana Cavallo, 21st AMDS, noncommissioned officer in-charge of bioenvironmental engineering.
