Since fall 2008, Peterson has registered thousands of military members, their family members, retirees, civilians and contractors into the Defense Biometric Identification System.

This Department of Homeland Security initiative was developed as a force protection program to manage personnel, property and installation access.

"In anticipation of the number of inbound personnel this summer and the number of personnel not yet registered in DBIDS, we encourage you to register at your earliest convenience," said Master Sgt. Brian Villaverde, 21st Security Forces Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of DBIDS. "A new full implementation date of January 2010 has been established for DBIDS at Peterson AFB."

Who does DBIDS registration affect?: Every DoD ID card holder requiring access to Peterson AFB who has not already registered and anyone with a new ID card since their last registration; for any reason (lost cards, promotions, expired cards, reenlistments, etc.)

"If you registered at the USAFA, your registration is good at Peterson. Therefore you do not need to re-register at Peterson unless you got a new ID card after having registered," said Capt. Tamara Fischer-Carter, 21st SFS operations officer.

What do personnel unregistered in DBIDS need to do?: Register for DBIDS in person at one of the locations on Peterson or the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Where and when can personnel register?: Peterson AFB Visitor Control Center located adjacent to the West Gate from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., or in Bldg 350 (same location where new DoD ID cards are issued) from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. All locations are closed on weekends and family days.

Why should personnel register?: As of January 2010, personnel who have not registered in DBIDS will be denied access to Peterson AFB until they are registered.

How does the registration process work?: Personnel must be sure to have their DoD ID card(s) in their possession when registering.

"Please register early in order to minimize wait times of all customers as we approach our full implementation date on Peterson AFB," Sergeant Villaverde said.
