Donald Murchland 21st Communications Squadron PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- On Oct. 16, Sharepoint will become the default homepage for the 21st Space Wing, a move which will allow users to share information at a much faster pace. "Sharepoint will essentially act as one giant command-wide server, where users can post spreadsheets, presentations, flyers and other documents and then send out a link to share them with others," said Charles Springs, 21st SW enterprise information manager. "Documents can also be updated and changed in real time, so personnel can collaborate easily on projects without having to constantly e-mail back and forth. Permissions can be customized to fit a unit's need for sensitive, but unclassified, data." Sharepoint will allow users to share presentations or documents one-on-one or with hundreds of people at the click of a mouse. Sharepoint users can also create personalized "My Sites" which allows users to post and share pictures, documents, and information with others which will build and maintain networking and mentoring relationships. "The convenience of Sharepoint will mean the eventual phasing out of all smaller, local drives being used in the 21st Space Wing right now," said Mr. Springs.
