On Oct. 16, Sharepoint will become the default homepage for the 21st Space Wing, a move which will allow users to share information at a much faster pace.

"Sharepoint will essentially act as one giant command-wide server, where users can post spreadsheets, presentations, flyers and other documents and then send out a link to share them with others," said Charles Springs, 21st SW enterprise information manager. "Documents can also be updated and changed in real time, so personnel can collaborate easily on projects without having to constantly e-mail back and forth. Permissions can be customized to fit a unit's need for sensitive, but unclassified, data."

Sharepoint will allow users to share presentations or documents one-on-one or with hundreds of people at the click of a mouse.

Sharepoint users can also create personalized "My Sites" which allows users to post and share pictures, documents, and information with others which will build and maintain networking and mentoring relationships.

"The convenience of Sharepoint will mean the eventual phasing out of all smaller, local drives being used in the 21st Space Wing right now," said Mr. Springs.

Some benefits of using Sharepoint are:

-Improve team productivity with easy-to-use collaborative tools
- Easily manage documents and help ensure integrity of content
-Get users up to speed quickly on unit, Wing, and Air Force Space Command happenings
-Deploy solutions tailored to your business processes
-Build a collaborative environment quickly and easily
-Reduce the complexity of securing information
-Provide sophisticated controls for securing unit resources
-Take file sharing to a new level with robust storage capabilities
-Easily scale your collaboration solution to meet unit needs
- Provide a cost-effective foundation for building Web-based applications

"Sharepoint will improve data flow and collaboration wing wide while cutting steps out of people's daily tasks," said Lt. Col. Tara Routsis, 21st SW Communications Squadron commander. "We are excited to bring this versatile tool to the 21st Space Wing."
