Wing IMA placed on brigadier general 'short list' Published Nov. 17, 2009 By Monica Mendoza 21st Space Wing Public Affairs staff writer PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Col. Joan Sandene, senior individual mobilization augmentee to the 21st Space Wing commander, has been short-listed for a Reserve brigadier general selection. In September, a selection board met and named 168 colonels as qualified for a general officer position. Being qualified is not a guarantee, but a first step in the process, Colonel Sandene said. Only 15 to 20 colonels from the list will advance each year into general officer posts, but Colonel Sandene said it was wonderful to be considered. "It's an awesome opportunity," Colonel Sandene said. "I'm excited at the fact that I'm even eligible to sit in an MA slot - just coming out on the list is an honor." Meanwhile, Colonel Sandene, who is new to the IMA post, has been working since September with Col. Stephen Whiting, 21st Space Wing commander, to see, "how Reservists in general can fit in with the 21st Space Wing," she said. Colonel Sandene is responsible for advising the commander on employment of Total Force capabilities to support 21st Space Wing missile warning and space control missions. She has been with the Wing for about two months.
